Which heroes to Avoid in Season 5 of Overwatch 2?

If you’re wondering which heroes to avoid in Season 5 of Overwatch 2, this article will give you the answer.

Summer is here, and Overwatch 2 Season 5 is slowly reaching its mid-stage, meaning that we will soon start getting information about Season 6. However, there is still time left for players to reach their desired rank in the current season.

In our previous meta-analysis article, we’ve shared more information about some of the tanks that you should focus on and those you should avoid. That said, today’s article will be a bit different because it will pay closer attention to the heroes that you should not be using in the current patch. Some may seem good on paper, but they’re not worth it because other Overwatch 2 heroes are better at what they’re doing. So, let’s learn more about them.

Before giving an answer to the question of which heroes to avoid in Season 5 of Overwatch 2 question, it’s worth knowing that these heroes aren’t that bad. However, they’re either too complex or just do not provide the same value as others. Therefore, there is no point in trying to play with them when other heroes do a better job.

Bastion

Bastion Overwatch 2 patch notes

The first Overwatch 2 Season 5 hero to avoid playing in the current meta may come as a surprise to some people, but if we take a look at the stats, we can understand why he’s here. Bastion has always been a strange DPS hero, even in Overwatch. The lack of movement speed abilities makes him a sitting duck, so he was never a popular pick among top-tier players. Instead, he was a regular pick in the lower-MMR bracket.

Although this is true even today, even some of the lower-rated players have realized that there is no point in playing with Bastion. The changes the hero got in Overwatch 2 made him a bit more popular in the beginning, but today, he is not the hero to have.

Bastion is a situational pick that can only do something against a specific team. He can work against heroes that can dive him and do not have that many CCs, which limits his capabilities.

Those asking themselves which heroes to avoid in Season 5 of Overwatch 2 should remember that Bastion is the worst DPS in the game right now. He is very limited in terms of the combos he can work with and the ones he has to avoid. The situational DPS hero is just not worth getting because other DPS, such as Soldier: 76 are much easier to play and a lot more successful.

Lifeweaver

The next name we must mention when it comes down to Overwatch 2 Season 5 heroes to avoid picking unless necessary is Lifeweaver. Even though we’ve put the hero in the A-Tier for supports because he can be played in a lot of comps, this is where his advantages end. Lifeweaver is an easy target for the enemy team and he’s almost always the go-to target, so surviving with the hero is easier said than done.

The hero’s low damage and healing output is something that makes him a tier 2 or e even a tier 3 pick. Other support heroes, such as Kiriko, are way more effective and can work in many situations. Sadly, the same can’t be said about this hero because he is hard to play, and it’s just not worth it.

Roadhog

hog

As mentioned in our article, where we’ve discussed some of the Overwatch 2 tank heroes, Roadhog is just one of those options that you should avoid playing. It doesn’t matter if you are amazing with him, the hero does not have the same impact as he once did, not even close. Pretty much all other heroes besides Doomfist are better than him, so there is no point in using the hero in the current meta.

As you may remember, Roadhog was in a weird state a few months ago because his one-shot made him the go-to option. However, Blizzard decided to nerf this combo after the community's backlash, so he is much harder to play right now. On top of that, his giant hitbox makes him an easy target for everyone to farm their ultimate, which is another thing that some Overwatch 2 Season 5 players often forget about.

Overwatch 2 Season 7 DPS Tier List - What To Pick?

Aside from everything mentioned so far, there are some situations where you could play with the hero. For example, he is pretty good on Illios because of his ability to hook targets in the pit, securing free skills. Sadly, this is not enough to make him a good pick, so it’s better to avoid him and focus on other tanks.

Speaking of the devil, Doomfirst is another hero that falls into this category, but we won’t include him specifically on the list because there are players who know how to use him.

Sombra

Overwatch 2 hero Sombra holds a purple sphere of energy.

The last hero on our list may surprise some players because there are situations where she may work, but if we compare her to other DPS heroes, we can see that this is not the case. Sombra is a hero that was incredibly popular in the beginning of Overwatch 2. Sadly, the constant nerfs pretty much “killed” her, so she’s no longer one of the go-to options in the current meta.

Sombra can work in situations where the team needs a given ability to be removed for a few seconds in order to win. However, her weak damage output and the fact that she’s very fragile means that a lot of other heroes do a much better job at what she’s good at.

Tracer, for example, is one of the best picks in the game and a hero that can make any team suffer. Albeit hard to master, this hero is incredibly strong in many situations, so it’s no surprise more people prefer playing with Tracer than with Sombra.
