Overwatch 2 Mid-Season 5 Patch Meta Analysis – Tanks

This Overwatch 2 Mid-season 5 patch meta analysis will reveal the things you need to know about the tanks and which combos to focus on.

Although many people think Overwatch 2 is slowly dying, the game has many loyal fans who are playing all the time. Blizzard keeps doing everything it can to make the game better, and the mid-season updates from July 11 are one of the attempts. We won’t go into details, but the new update features a lot of changes to some of the most popular heroes in the game. Speaking of something new, we also learned that the Overwatch League Grand Finals will take place in Canada, so it will definitely be an event you should keep an eye on.

With that out of the way, this Overwatch 2 mid-season patch meta 5 analysis will focus on tanks. This is the most important position in the game, so let’s learn more about them.

Orisa

Orisa

When talking about tanks in Overwatch 2, we need to mention Orisa because this hero has been the focus of the new game. The hero was popular in the first couple of seasons, but she’s not that good in Season 5, which is why most players started focusing on other alternatives.

In an attempt to “revive” the hero, our Overwatch 2 mid-season patch meta 5 analysis shows that Blizzard buffed Fortify. Prior to the changes, this ability gave a 40% damage reduction, but now, it provides 50%.

This buff seems big, and it is, but we think it won’t be enough to make Orisa a popular option in the meta. Although players focusing on bringing her down will have a hard time doing it, most players know there is no need to focus on this hero. Consequently, this change won’t really make that much of a difference.

Orisa is not good against Dive setups, and she’s not working well with the current top-tier DPS picks.

Winston

In an Overwatch 2 Season 5 meta where dive combos are strong, it is no surprise that Winston is one of the names that stand out. The hero is pretty good in a variety of setups because he enables certain heroes. He is also pretty hard to kill, so we think the hero is worth picking.

With that said, an interesting thing to point out following our Overwatch 2 mid-season 5 meta analysis is that you and your teammates need to know what they are doing. The Dive meta is powerful, but only if the other players besides Winston are on board and know what to do. Consequently, only use this combo if you are confident in your team.

Roadhog

Overwatch Roadhog Guide

Ever since the one-shot HOG meta in Overwatch 2 was changed, Roadhog has been one of the worst tanks in the game. Following our Overwatch 2 mid-season patch meta 5 analysis, it’s safe to say that this continues to be the case.

There is no arguing that the hero works well in some Season 5 combos, especially when he has an active ultimate. However, the hero doesn’t really fit in any combos. Furthermore, he is not good against any particular hero and can be an amazing target for DPS and other tank heroes to farm their ults. Consequently, most people prefer to avoid him.

Interestingly, Roadhog is one of the Overwatch 2 Season 5 heroes that we expect to receive drastic changes in the next couple of months. Blizzard said that they would change the hero from the group up, so it will be interesting to see the final result.

D.Va

Our Overwatch 2 Mid-Season 5 patch meta analysis shows that D.Va is definitely one of the heroes you can focus on. She can do a lot of damage, peel for her teammates, work in a variety of setups, and is fun to play. No wonder this is one of the evergreen Overwatch 2 Tank heroes that can work in pretty much every setup.

Wrecking ball

Ball can work in some setups, but it is worth mentioning that the hero is too hard to play, so a lot of people prefer focusing on other options. Sure, good Ball players can definitely carry their teams, but there are many things that can stay in the hero’s way.

The problem is that Wrecking Ball is a complex hero that will only work in Overwatch 2 Season 5 of the other heroes know how to play with him. Since landing your abilities is not easy, it is not really worth playing with him unless you are really good because other tanks can have more impact way easier.

Doomfirst

Doomfirst is similar to Roadhog when it comes down to his current state. He could be better in the current meta because his skill set is hard to land. He is also a lot more squishy than many other tanks, so it should not be a surprise that the enemy team will try to focus on you.

Zarya

Zarya is more or less like Wrecking Ball in some ways because the hero can work, but only in specific situations. The hero is not that good against most other tanks. She can also be pretty easy to kill because most players do not know when to be defensive and when to play aggressively.

Sigma

sigma-tankz

Sigma has been the dominating hero in the last Overwatch seasons because he is the king of Poke combos. Albeit not good on all maps, he is the best hero on others, so there is no arguing that he is among the options you can keep a close eye on.

Junker Queen

After the buffs to JQ from a few weeks ago, there is no arguing this is one of the heroes that has the tools needed to shine. Junker Queen is among the best heroes against dive setups and one of the best regarding carrying her team. We’ve seen this repeatedly in Overwatch 2 Season 5, so keep an eye on her if you are looking for a hero that will work well.

Ramattra

If you are wondering which is the best tank in Overwatch 2 Season 5, it is Ramattra. Although we expected some drastic nerfs in the latest mid-season patch update, the hero remains the best in the game. His damage output is really impressive, and he has the best ultimate in the game.
Reinhardt

Finally, we have Rein, a hero that is pretty good in the current setup. Following this Overwatch 2 mid-season 5 patch meta analysis, we can safely say the hero can work well in a lot of scenarios, and he can be a solid option to boost yourself. He is pretty good against most tanks, but he can suffer against some of the popular DPS combos, such as Mercy and Pharah, so be careful.
