Overwatch 2 Season 7 – Hero and Map Updates

Here is everything new in Overwatch 2 Season 7 when it comes down to hero and map updates.

As mentioned in our Overwatch 2 Season 7 overview, the new update comes with tons of new things to follow. Rise of Darkness and Sombra’s reworks are probably the options that are more interesting than the rest. However, those are just some of the new things because Overwatch’s latest update comes with tons of other hero and map changes that we will look at in a bit.

We are yet to see what the changes will be like and what’s going to happen in the current meta. One thing is for sure – a lot of the big options in Season 6 will not be that good in Overwatch 2 Season 7. With that out of the way, let’s learn more about everything.

Overwatch 2 Season 7 Hero Updates

Unsurprisingly, Season 7 of our favorite game contains a lot of buffs and news that will change the meta as we know it. Some changes were expected, but others came out of nowhere, which means it’s time to reveal everything.

Orisa

Overwatch 2 season 7 Orisa

The first hero that received changes in Overwatch 2 Season 7 is Orisa, which is not a surprise. Oris was the strongest tank in Overwatch 2 Season 6 and the hero that everyone focused on. It had the ability to do tons of damage and was almost impossible to kill because of Fortify.

Even though the hero keeps this ability, it is slightly weaker than before because it provides 45% damage reduction instead of 50%. To be honest, we expected more nerfs because this will probably not be enough to keep the hero out of the meta. Orisa will continue to dominate the games it is in, and the devs confirm it by saying “This particular change is relatively light”. We expect more nerfs in the upcoming days.

Ramattra

The second tank that receives changes in the Overwatch 2 Season 7 is Ramattra. Like Orisa, Ramattra was a hot pick in the last meta, but instead of receiving nerfs, Ramattra gets a buff. Following the new patch, the hero’s Nemesis Form now has a 7s CD instead of 8s. This small buff should be enough to make Ramattra one of the preferred picks.

Wrecking Ball

Ball also receives a small buff in Season 7 because Quad Cannons now take 30 shots instead of 20 shots to reach the maximum spread. This change should allow the hero to finish off targets more reliably than before.

Zarya

Up next, we have Zarya, the hero that some people used in Season 6 to win games. Even though she wasn’t that strong, Overwatch 2 Season 7 brought even more nerfs to the hero. After the changes, Zarya’s Projected Barrier is now 15% smaller, making it the same size as the particle Barrier. Furthermore, its HP is also down from 225 to 200.

Cassidy

Cassidy was in a fairly good spot before the changes, but Season 7 of OW2 affected the hero. Following everything, his Combat Roll now provides 75% damage reduction instead of 50%. This change increases its survivability, but it will be interesting to see if it is enough to put the hero back in the meta.

Mei

Mei is yet another hero who receives changes in pretty much every patch, including Season 6 of Overwatch 2. After the changes, Mei’s Deep Chill is no longer available in the game. Instead, the hero’s Endothermic Blaster now deals 100 instead of 70 damage per second. Besides the damage buff, the weapon immediately slows enemies by 40% instead of building up over time.

These changes were interesting because they will change the way the hero is played. Instead of increasing the slow over time and the combo damage, the hero now has more base damage, which should make her easier to play with,

Torbjorn

Even though Blizzard said that the changes make Torb’s shooting “more manageable”, the hero actually received two nerfs. The first one is his Rivet Gun, which now has a primary fire recovery rate from .48 to 0.51s. On top of that, Overhealth’s bonus is down from 100 to 75.

Brigitte

When it comes down to the Overwatch 2 Season 7 changes, only two supports received something new. Brigitte is one of them, and her Whip Shot now deals 80 instead of 70 damage. This will make the hero more effective, so we expect to see her in almost every brawl combo.

Illari

Illari has been one of the strongest Overwatch 2 heroes since she became available in S6. Even though the hero already received a lot of changes, we saw yet another nerf, this time, it affects Solar Rifle. After the new changes, the secondary fire healing per second is down from 120 to 105. This means the Overwatch 2 Season 7 hero will be less effective.

Map Updates

Besides the changes to the heroes in the Overwatch 2 Season 7, the new update also includes several new things to some maps. For example, Route 66 now has extra places for the attacking team where it can take cover near the spawn. Moreover, there will be fewer places to take cover once the payload progresses, which means we should see more team fights.

In addition to Route 66, a lot of other maps in Overwatch 2 got new lightning updates. For example, Midtown is now played at night, whereas Samoa is a morning map.

Hero Option and Input Updates

Another new thing in Overwatch 2 Season 7 is related to the hero option and input updates. These changes are called “qualify-of-life” by Blizzard, which means you can customize the hero you are using. There are many of them, so look at the full update log for more information.

Bug Fixes

Like any other Overwatch 2 update, this one also contains a lot of bug fixes. We suggest taking a look at the Overwatch 2 patch notes if you want to check everything. With that said, here are some of the more important updates.

  • The bug where players could not capture the Plays of the Game using the in-game capture system is fixed.
  • The bug where supports couldn’t see their allies’ HP is now fixed.

Conclusion

Do not forget to check our overview of Season 7 because we also cover the full changes regarding Sombra. She received tons of new things, and by the looks of it, the hero will be even more interesting.
