Only two weeks remain before the start of the biggest Esports carnival of the year, Valve’s TI 12. A record total of 20 teams across six regions will be competing for a chance to become immortal. Regional pride runs deep into the veins of Dota 2 fanatics and players alike, as they all try to be the torchbearers for their regions.

Ranking The Regions: Battle For Pride

Here’s an overview into the regions and their likelihood of claiming Dota 2’s biggest prize –

#6 SouthEast Asia

Coming in at rock-bottom is SE Asia. They aren’t weak by any stretch of the imagination, but such is the competition at The International. Only Talon Esports qualified to The International 2023 from the DPC rankings, with SMG securing their slot through the Regional Qualifiers. Talon were the torchbearers for their region throughout this year. 23savage and co. look poised to make a deep run at The International 2023.

SMG was shaky throughout 2023, not qualifying to any of the majors. However, with No[o]ne joining in August, they stomped their way through the qualifiers. TI will be having MidOne and No[o]ne back for the first time since 2019. The SEA fanatics will be hoping for a good showing out of their two squads.

#5 North America

The North American DPC, often underestimated, rises in our ranking due to Shopify Rebellion's recent strong performance and an additional TI slot. While NA lacks strong competition overall, TSM and Shopify Rebellion have stood out internationally.

Nouns' addition boosted TSM's regional dominance, but they faltered on LAN, while Shopify Rebellion's inconsistency in majors raises concerns. Nonetheless, their DreamLeague Season 21 Grand Finals appearance offers hope for NA fans at TI.

#4 South America

In 2023, South America has surged ahead of their North American counterparts, enjoying unprecedented success in Dota. The region has reached new heights, boasting an impressive four teams qualifying for TI. Earlier in the year, Evil Geniuses made it to the Top-4 of a major, marking a significant achievement for SA.

Despite a shaky start, beastcoast bounced back after a roster change, with Parker stepping in for star carry K1, leading to improved performance. South America received two slots in the Regional Qualifiers for the first time, with Keyd Stars and Thunder Awaken securing their TI spots. The SA Dota scene is flourishing, and fans have high expectations for The International 2023.

#3 China

In 2023, the Chinese Dota 2 scene faced its share of challenges, resulting in just two teams qualifying for TI. However, their rich history and ability to perform on the grandest stages still position them ahead of SEA and the Americas.

LGD Gaming, a consistent force, remains at the forefront of Chinese Dota. Despite a slow start to the season, the addition of Niu revitalized the team, and LGD is determined to reclaim their former glory.

Azure Ray, having emerged victorious from a fiercely competitive Regional Qualifier despite rebranding, led by fy and his team, are eager to remind the world of their true strength on the international scene.

#2 Eastern Europe

Eastern Europe shines in 2023 with a remarkable four teams securing spots at The International. The region's top-tier teams, including defending champions Team Spirit, exhibit peak form and are formidable contenders. Team Spirit's synergy improved with the addition of mid laner Larl, leading them to victory at DreamLeague Season 21 before TI12.

#1 Western Europe

No one who has been following the Dota 2 world will be surprised by this ending. Western Europe has dominated the Dota 2 scene for quite some time now, with 4 out of the last 5 TI winning teams belonging to the region. This year, they are coming in just as hot, with all 3 teams at the top of the DPC rankings being from WEU.

Gaimin Gladiators have rampaged through all who stood before them for the entirety of the season, winning all three Majors. Team Liquid faced them in all three of the finals, which goes to further show the sheer dominance of WEU teams in 2023. Tundra Esports also look solid heading into TI, with the addition of 2 time TI champion Topson to their ranks.

Entity and Quest Esports were the ones to make it out of the ridiculously competitive Regional Qualifiers, and all of these teams look to be in strong positions to make it very far at The International 2023.
