The International 12 will put an end to this year’s DPC, which will also be the last one because Valve announced it will remove it. The event will take place in Seattle and will include 20 teams. Once DreamLeague Season 21 comes to an end, we will focus on the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year.

Even though all of the game's big names will participate in the competition, a few iconic Dota 2 teams won’t be at TI 12. Sadly, they weren’t able to secure enough DPC points and failed to win the qualifiers. This means that we won’t be able to see them in action. Without further ado, let’s go through them and see why they couldn’t be one of the 20 squads that will be in Seattle in just a few weeks.

Team Secret

It’s no surprise that the first name on the list of the iconic Dota 2 teams that won’t at The International 12 is Team Secret. TS and Puppey will miss out on this year’s most prestigious Dota 2 tournament because the team failed to impress with its results. TS was incredibly inconsistent in the DPC, and it did not win any events. Even though it had the chance to secure a slot via the qualifiers, Puppey and his crew weren’t able to do that.

Speaking of the qualifiers, Team Secret couldn’t even reach the top 3. The team lost against Entity in R2 of the Upper Bracket and then failed to defeat Quest Esports. The latter eventually made it to the Final and secured one of the spots.

Considering that Team Secret has always been a stable contender for The International, fans will definitely miss the squad. Puppey’s many years of experience would have helped it a lot, but we must wait for next year to see the team in action.

Nigma Galaxy

The second of the Dota 2 teams that won’t be at The International 12 is Nigma Galaxy. Most fans who’ve followed the Western European Dota 2 scene are probably not surprised by it The team had its worst DPC season yet after dropping to Division II several times. KuroKy and the rest weren’t able to defeat any of the big names and crashed during the TI12 qualifiers.

Even though the squad was one of the big favorites for one of the two slots, Nigma Galaxy lost to Entity. After it went to the lower bracket, the team also lost to Alliance, which has been in the Tier 2 scene for a while. This loss has put an end to the squad’s dream to play alongside the best in Seattle.

OG

The last team from Eastern Europe that fans hoped to see at The International 12 is OG. Even though this is the only organization in Dota 2 that has won two consecutive TIs, OG will miss out on this year’s tournament. BZM’s crew started really strong but has had all sorts of problems throughout the season. The squad switched some of its players, but even the arrival of Ceb- did not help them win one of the TI slots.

OG missed out on gaining enough DPC points for a TI12 invite, so it had to play in the qualifiers. The bad news for the club was that its first challenge was Team Secret, so the match favored Puppey’s squad. OG went to the Lower Bracket, where it defeated Alliance. Sadly, it wasn’t able to do the same against Quest Esports, which put an end to the club’s dream for TI 12.

Team Aster

The Chinese Dota 2 scene hasn’t been that good lately, but there were 2 teams that were on par with their Europen counterparts. LGD was one of them and the squad received a slot for TI 12, whereas the other one was Team Aster. Unfortunately, SumaiL’s squad was unable to get enough DPC points, so it had to fight in the qualifiers.

Even though Aster was the big favorite, after the end of the quals, this will be one of the Dota 2 teams that won’t be at The International 12. Aster did well in the first match, but it lost the UB Semifinals against Xtreme Gaming. Although we expected the team to have no problems after that, it couldn’t defeat Team Bright, which meant it was game over. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to see the likes of Monet and SumaiL, something that hasn’t happened in a while.

Xtreme Gaming

The last of the Dota 2 teams that won’t be at The International 12 is also from China and it’s also a squad that we expected to see more of. Xtreme Gaming hasn’t had the best DPC season. However, the team has proven several times that it deserves to be among the best. Sadly, it failed to defeat Azure Ray, and it lost the Chinese Dota 2 TI 12 qualifiers. 

Xtreme Gaming performed really well in the qualifiers because it defeated Aster.Aries and Team Aster, before losing to Azure Ray. Even though the squad bounced back after defeating Team Zero, it reached the Final against Azure Ray and lost it again. Sadly, this put an end to the team’s The International 12 conquest.
