CDL Major 2 Qualifiers – Week 1; Day 2 Recap

Here’s all the action from the CDL Major 2 week 1, day 2 of Major 2 Qualifiers.

The Call of Duty League Major 2 Qualifiers continued with day two of week one. We saw the Ravens return following their 3-0 defeat to Toronto Ultra yesterday. While we also got our first look at the new Los Angeles Guerrillas roster as they took on the Florida Mutineers.

Florida Mutineers 3-2 Los Angeles Guerrillas

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with LA Guerrillas’ Exceed ahead of this match, and he told ESTNN that JoeDeceives is the most talented player he’s seen in COD. Well, he could be right as the Los Angeles Guerrillas kicked off this series with a 250-166 Embassy Hardpoint victory in which JoeDeceives put up 26 kills and a 1.23 K/D in his debut map. 

JoeDeceives dominated once again in map two, dropping the most kills on the side of the Los Angeles Guerrillas with 11 kills. However, the Florida Mutineers had the clutch factor that was needed in the El Asilo Search and Destroy as they took a 6-5 round 11 victory to tie the series 1-1. It was the massive 13/4 performance from Brack on the side of the Mutineers that pushed them through and saw them take the win. The Florida Mutineers continued their momentum from the Search and Destroy into an El Asilo Control victory. They took this map 3-2 after seeing themselves 2-0 down earlier in the map. The resurgence was down to Havok’s exceptional performance, putting up 40 kills and an X K/D as the Mutineers took a 2-1 series lead.

Mercado was the setting for map four, and we saw one of the most incredible endings to a Hardpoint so far this season, with the Los Angeles Guerrillas leveling the series 250-240. The final two points were mixy, with the Guerrillas having an opportunity to win being stopped by a Havok two-piece, before LAG won a 2v3 in the point to stop a Mutineers victory and make the map their own. However, the Florida Mutineers came back to win the map five in extremely dominant fashion, taking a 6-1 victory on Fortress Search and Destroy. This saw the LA Guerrillas lose their first match with their new roster, however, they showed some great quality and with improvements in Search and Destroy, they could be a strong squad.

Minnesota ROKKR 3-2 London Royal Ravens

We thought we saw the wildest Hardpoint ending in the first match of the day, however, this second match delivered even more. The London Royal Ravens delivered a 250-244 Fortress Hardpoint win with a 36/23 performance from Asim, who has been consistently performing to his highest level all season. The final point went back and forth, and it looked like ROKKR were going to win it, but the Ravens made it back in and a three-piece from Asim saw them lock down the final points and take the map to lead the series 1-0.

The London Royal Ravens took a 2-0 lead in this series following a 6-4 Mercado Search and Destroy victory in which Asim dominated once again. 8 kills from him saw the Ravens extend their lead to 2-0 and look to close it out in the Control. Minnesota ROKKR stopped the 3-0 in this series through a 3-2 Fortress Control victory. While the scoreline was close, this map was pretty dominant from the side of ROKKR, seeing one round go the way of them with a massive 27 lives left. Afro was frying here, putting up 34 kills and a 2.00 K/D as they got themselves back in the series. Minnesota ROKKR went on to level the series 2-2 with a 250-131 Hotel Hardpoint victory. This was down to ROKKR’s exceptional rotations, and the Ravens being unable to break these when needed. Skrapz suffered on the side of London with just 8 kills, but they look to rebound in the final Search and Destroy.

Somehow, with all four players suffering from food poisoning, Minnesota ROKKR came back to reverse sweep the London Royal Ravens and win the series 3-2. Afro continued his dominance against his old team, the Ravens, as he put up 12 kills and a 3.00 K/D in the final map, however, it was Cammy’s ace that closed out the series for them.

Atlanta FaZe 3-0 Seattle Surge

Atlanta FaZe came out hot on this map with a 250-187 Embassy Hardpoint to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Abezy was unbelievable in this first map, putting up 23 kills as he topped the lobby for kills and pulled his FaZe teammates through the map and into a series lead. 

Atlanta FaZe went on to take a 2-0 lead in the series through a quick and dominant 6-2 Mercado Search and Destroy victory. Abezy continued his dominance as he put up 11 kills in this map which FaZe controlled completely throughout to increase their lead in the series to 2-0. This series was over within minutes, as Atlanta FaZe closed out the series with a 3-0 Hotel Control victory. Simp was unbelievable in this map, putting up a massive 16 kill streak and ending the map 30/14 as he tore through the Seattle Surge and ended this series as quick as it started.

New York Subliners 3-1 LA Thieves

The New York Subliners look to continue their LAN dominance into the online qualifiers for Major 2. However, the first map did not go in their favor. LA Thieves heavily outslayed in the map one Fortress Hardpoint as Kenny absolutely dominated the map putting up 33 kills and a 2.06 K/D in their 250-184 victory to kick off the series.

The New York Subliners bounced back in map two with a round 11 clutch to level the series. This 6-5 victory on El Asilo Search and Destroy was extremely even between the two teams, however, Kenny was once again exceptional as he dropped 12 kills and a 2.00 K/D for the L. Map three was also extremely close, with the New York Subliners coming out on top with a 3-2 Fortress Control win. This time it was Kismet who topped the leaderboard with his 33 kills, putting NYSL in the driving seat with a 2-1 lead in the series.

Embassy was the location for map four, and this is where the Subliners closed out the series with a 250-219 Hardpoint win. Yet again, this was an extremely close map, but NYSL picked up crucial scrap time to see out the map and, therefore the series.
