New York Subliners vs Minnesota RØKKR will be the first match played of this year’s CDL Champs.
There’s only one event left in the 2023 Call of Duty League – which is the biggest and the best. That’s right, this Thursday marks the beginning of the 2023 CDL Champs, where the 8 best teams of the year clash in order to find out who will take it all. The first match will be played between the 3rd seed of this year, New York Subliners, and Minnesota RØKKR, who place 6th overall.

New York Subliners

While the Subliners only managed to secure the 3rd place of the regular split, they were the only team capable of getting two titles in the Modern Warfare 2 season. Paco “HyDra” Rusiewiez and his teammates have started the year with a win at the Stage 1 Major after finishing 9th in the Qualifiers, beating Seattle Surge 4-1 in the final in a dominant fashion. While they had to wait 3 Majors until their next big success, they were busy, as they got a 4th place in the Stage 2 Major Qualifiers, the Stage 4 Qualifiers and the Stage 4 Major. NYSL came out of nowhere in Stage 5, just like in Stage 1, as they finished 6th in the Qualifiers, but managed to get the best of Atlanta FaZe in the finals.
The squad’s best gamemode is Hardpoint, as they wont 47 out of 78 matches played in this mode, but have vastly positive winrates in SnD and Control as well.

RØKKR had it’s ups and downs during the season: they finished 3rd in the Stage 2 Major, as well as the Stage 5 Major, and finished at the top in the Stage 1 Major Qualifiers. However, alongside these victories they didn’t find much success, as their next best placing was a 5th-6th spot in the Stage 4 Major. They had to swap out one of their top players, Marcus “Afro” Reid towards the end of the season as the Brit didn’t meet expectations – but they managed to get into the top 8, so they made the right call.
They have a 24-18 record on Control, but only won 30 out of 66 matches played on Hardpoint, while their SnD record is even worse – according to the numbers, they are outclassed by NYSL.
New York Subliners vs Minnesota RØKKR Predictions
Of course, there’s more to Call of Duty than numbers, but history is on the New Yorker’s side as well: NYSL faced Minnesota RØKKR 6 times this season, and they only lost once in Stage 2, where RØKKR needed all the maps to get the best of HyDra and co. On the flipside, the Subliners beat RØKKR 3-0 two times, 3-1 two times and 3-2 once, so they should be able to clench this win.
