Overwatch 2 Season 5 – DPS Heroes That Are Not Worth Using

Despite the fact that Season 5 of Overwatch 2 did not include that many nerfs, it already has an effect on the meta. Certain heroes became a lot better than before, whereas others are just not worth it. So, let’s learn more about the site.

Bastion

The first Overwatch 2 Season 5 DPS hero that is not worth picking right now is Bastion. Although he was not one of the heroes that received any nerfs in S5, he didn’t get any buffs either. Consequently, Bastion continues to be a situational pick that can only work in some specific situations.

One of the cases where you may want to pick Bastion is when you need to counter a specific tank. Furthermore, Bastion can be pretty good as a counter pick when you need a lot of damage, and the enemy team is not expecting it. However, his lack of mobility in Overwatch 2 Season 5 means he’s not that good.

Widowmaker

There are a couple of Overwatch 2 Season 5 heroes that will probably work really well in pro games but not that well in PUBs. Widowmaker is undyingly among them because the most recent nerfs already have an effect on the hero. Speaking of the Season 5 changes, Widowmaker’s Scoped Shot now max a 40-60 damage falloff, instead of a 70-100. Furthermore, her Scoped Shot maximum damage falloff is up from 30% to 50%. 

Although some of these changes may seem too harsh, the idea was to reduce the hero’s one-shot capabilities. Blizzard has achieved their goal, but this has had a very bad effect on Widowmaker’s pub-game impact. Currently, in Overwatch 2 Season 5, the hero doesn’t seem that good and is incredibly inconsistent, especially in the hands of some players. So, unless you are extremely confident in your skills, it’s best to avoid Widowmaker and focus on other heroes. 

Sombra

Ever since Sombra’s domination at the beginning of Overwatch 2, the hero is just not as strong as before. The many nerfs that affected her performance in the last couple of months still have a negative effect on her win rate. In fact, if we check OverBuff, we can see that she has around a 44% win rate, making her the worst Overwatch 2 Season 5 DPS right now.

There are some situations where Sombra can do pretty well. For example, she’s really strong when the enemy team wants to focus on a particular hero. Sadly, there are more drawbacks than perks because many top-tier meta heroes currently counter her a lot.

Symmetra

Although Torb feels like one of the strongest Overwatch 2 Season 5 DPS hero right now, the same can’t be said about Symmetra. This hero has been away from the pro meta, but she can be a pretty solid option for a PUB game, depending on the map.

The main problem with Symmetra is the fact that the hero is pretty hard to master. Moreover, she requires some team coordination, which is not always possible, especially in the lower ranks of Overwatch 2. Consequently, she’s just not worth picking because there are other DPS heroes that can do a much better job.

Junkrat

Despite being one of the most “influential” DPS heroes in Overwatch 2, this meta is not that good for Junkrat. He is among the heroes with the highest damage output in the game. However, he is not that good in certain matchups, especially when playing against long and mid-range heroes. Consequently, he is not an Overwatch 2 Season 5 DPS we recommend picking unless you are really good with him.

With that said, there are situations where Junkrat can be a pretty solid option. The thing is that it all depends on his opponents because he just can’t deal with some heroes.

Reaper

The last Overwatch 2 DPS that we think is not worth getting right now is Reaper. This probably will surprise some of you because Hanzo’s damage nerf means that he can no longer land a one-shot on this 250 HP hero. Sadly, this is not enough to “promote” Reaper because Cassidy’s new grenade makes it really hard to play.

Reaper relies on his abilities to survive, and since Cassidy’s grenade can disable some of them, it becomes increasingly difficult for the hero to do something. Even more annoying is that Reaper’s Wraith Form no longer works against things like Steel Trap, Graviton Surge, and other mobility-locking effects. This means that people who play Reaper have to be extremely cautious when playing against certain heroes.

Mei (Depending in the situation)

Even though some people think that the Overwatch 2 Season 5 changes to Mei were for the better, it really depends on what kind of opponents you’re playing against. In case you do not know, Endothermic Blaster is a lot different than before and resembles the one Mei had during the original Overwatch.

Following the changes, the hero’s weapons deals 55 damage, the fire slows now scales between 30 and 50%, and the slow sticks to an enemy for 1.5s and slows them down for 75%. As for Mei’s secondary fire, it can detonate the slow effect, allowing her to deal 40 extra damage.

These changes definitely seem good on paper, but it seems like most people in Overwatch 2 Season 5 do not know how to use them yet. So, if you are among them, it’s probably best to avoid the hero until you learn how to make the most of her. Mei can be pretty good against tanks, but not that powerful against some DPS.
