What’s the Best Race for Warlock in WoW Dragonflight

Now that every race can play Warlock in patch 10.1.5, it's time to take a look at what the Best Race for Warlock is for both Horde and Alliance.

A really quick disclaimer before we get underway with the actual stats. The numbers are so close, that even the difference between the worst and the best is around 3k dps (a difference between 138k and 141k). Obviously, we don't have as much sim data for all the new races, but we can help guide folks looking to get the absolute most out of their spec. We'll base these stats on the Demonology Warlock for this, as it probably offers the fairest overall look.

10.1.5 is likely to see a number of Warlock mains swap races. Either to utilize increased DPS, or change up a tired look. Racial abilities generally have a very minor impact on your choice, but, if you're here then you obviously want to know. So, let's take a look at the PvE aspect, as it has fewer variables, and PvP racial abilities are a much more black and white.

So, based on the numbers, we have a few options for each faction. For Horde, we have Troll and Goblin, while Orc as t for Demonology Warlocks only. Alliance are eating slightly better here, with Human, Mechagnome, Dwarf, and Lightforged Dranei pulling away. We also suspect Tauren and Night Elf will fare well once they are added in 10.1.5. We will update this article if that is the case.

Best Race for Warlock – A look at the numbers

Note, this is based on pre-10.1.5 as the data isn't strong enough for the new races.

The data above from Bloodmallet gives us some idea of how close the spread of DPS is. Again, you can simply play what you want, but it's clear that Troll and Dwarf are two of the best options for Demo. The numbers are the top are much closer for Destruction, so while Troll is lower, relatively speaking, it's only 300 or so DPS. Overall, Human is pretty consistent for Alliance, alongside Mechagnome. It's probably best to look at the worst, with Vulpera and Undead consistently at the bottom of the lists.

Top 5 Alliance

  • Human
  • Mechagnome
  • Gnome
  • Lightforged Dranei
  • Nightelf

Top 5 Horde

  • Troll
  • Orc (best for Demo and Affliction)
  • Goblin
  • Blood Elf
  • Nightborne (bad for Demo)

Humans are a solid pick for Alliance because the 2% flat stat increase to secondary stats is just good for anyone. Mechagnome is another good option, with their Combat Analysis racial meaning they can gain primary stat for a short duration during combat.

For Horde, Troll is always a solid pick, with their racial functioning as a mini personal Heroism (Bloodlust). Orc is a good option, especially for Demo and Affliction, with Goblin being another good option, though specifically for their extra mobility. Something Warlock severely lacks.

Again, the numbers are so slight, that unless you're pushing higher-end content, anything will do. For me, Human has always been my favourite for the 10% reputation boost. That's often the best bet anyway; look at what aspect of the spec you're most interested in and go with that.
