G2 Esports vs KOI Preview and Predictions: LEC Summer Split 2023

G2 Esports vs KOI pits the reigning Summer Split Champions against the most decorated team of the LEC – who will come out on top?

Only three days remain of the 2023 LEC Summer Split, but there’s still 6 spots left in the Group Stage, as only G2 Esports and Fnatic got enough wins to qualify so far. Of course, that doesn’t mean that G2 can just sit out the last 3 days, and on Sunday, they will face KOI – the current Summer Champions of the LEC.

G2 Esports

After winning the Winter Split then getting the furthest out of all Western teams in the MSI, G2 Esports came back swinging to the LEC. They could have had a perfect run if not for Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther’s TikTok Neeko montage plays, but that’s a small price to pay for entertainment.

G2 had a much better showing in the second week of the Summer LEC split, as they beat Vitality, SK Gaming and Astralis as well. Against the French and the Danish teams, the Kings of Europe didn’t have many problems, but they needed the help of SK in order to beat them, as the Germans showed them a hard time in the early game of that match – but failing to utilize their lead and giving opportunities to their opponents meant that Steven “Hans sama” Liv and his Kog’Maw was enough the turn the game around.

KOI

Even though KOI won the 2022 LEC Summer Split while still under the name of Rogue, they couldn’t even reach finals this year so far. The Spanish organisation only has two wins under its belt in Summer, only managing to beat Excel and Heretics.

While they could surprise their opponents with Emil “Larssen” Larsson’s Tristana mid on Sunday, the Yordle with a Cannon couldn’t secure a victory against SK Gaming Monday. KOI are looking much weaker than they did when they still had Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus in the team, but that’s not the fault of Henk “Advienne” Reijenga – it’s Markos “Comp” Stamkopoulos and Kim “Malrang” Geun-seong who are underperforming, and who could spell doom for the team this week.

G2 Esports vs KOI Predictions

G2 is soaring, while KOI is struggling – still they are the reigning champs and have beaten G2 Esports numerous times in the past. However, the coaching staff has to get Comp and Malrang up to speed, as well as helping Mathias “Szygenda” Jensen become a bit more stable in both the laning phase and in teamfights.

G2 Esports, more specifically Hans sama have received some criticism as he was a bit quiet at the start of the season, but with his Kog’Maw performances, all the naysayers have been silenced – will they continue their 4-win streak, or fall at the hands of KOI?
