KOI vs Team Heretics Preview and Predictions: LEC 2023 Summer Group Stage

KOI vs Team Heretics is the Spanish showdown with the biggest stake so far, as the loser will be eliminated from the rest of the LEC.

Saturday will be a very exciting day for all LEC fans and the players that will be competing: on the first day of this round, two teams will have to say goodbye to the most prestigious League of Legends event of the region, which means that they won’t be able to qualify for the LEC Season Finals (other than MAD Lions, who already secured their spot by winning the Spring Split). But for teams such as Team Heretics, the Bo3 on Saturday will be a matter of life or death, as they didn’t rank very high in the Winter and Spring Split, and are in desperate need of Season Finals points.

KOI vs Team Heretics Preview

KOI

The squad of KOI have been on a steadily decreasing track since the start of the 2023 season. After swapping out Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu for Mathias “Szygenda” Jensen, the 2022 Summer champions made it to the top 4 in the Winter Split, but failed to qualify for Playoffs in Spring. In Summer, they could only get 8th place in the Regular Season even though they are the defending champs, as Henk “Advienne” Reijenga couldn’t reinvigorate the team after he was traded for Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus with Fnatic.

KOI vs Team Heretics Comp

While KOI got into the Group Stage, they didn’t have a strong debut, losing to G2 Esports 0-2, failing to show any meaningful resistance against Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther and his squad. While the Spanish team got picks like LeBlanc and Maokai, they couldn’t make a splash, losing in one of the shortest series in Groups so far.

Team Heretics

Team Heretics also lost their first Bo3, but they took a point away from Excel Esports. The arrival of Victor “Flakked” Lirola and Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié really helped this team out, as they went from a 9th place in the Spring Split to a 3rd place in Summer, proving to everyone that there’s more in the newest organization of the LEC than it first seemed.

KOI vs Team Heretics Jankos

They started out strong against XL as well, thanks to Vetheo’s Kai’Sa and Flakked’s Ziggs. In the second match, they picked Seraphine botlane, which didn’t live up to expectations, and after Excel got some momentum, they managed to defeat them in the third match as well, knocking them down to the Loser’s Bracket.

KOI vs Team Heretics Predictions

While both teams lost, Heretics definitely put up a better fight against Excel than KOI did against G2. Granted that their opponents were not the same strength, KOI can still surprise us, and they managed to beat Heretics in the Regular Season with Szygenda’s Gwen and Larssen’s Tristana. These picks are strong in the current patch, 13.13 as well, but Heretics have shown that they are able to adapt fast and have explosive plays – something that KOI lacked in the entirety of the 2023 LEC Season.
