LoL Arena Ranks, Everytinhg About the New Game Mode’s Tiers

LoL Arena Ranks are something to keep in mind when grinding the new game mode of League of Legends – but how do they work?
Patch 13.14 introduced a whole new game mode to League of Legends, the most popular MOBA game in the world called Arena. Arena is a 2v2v2v2 mode that’s all about finding the best combos and builds, making them even better with augments, but most importantly: beating your opponents and becoming the king of the hill! Arena has taken the game and the community by storm, quickly becoming a fan-favourite mode. While the current iteration of the 2v2v2v2 is only a Limited Time Mode, Riot Games have expressed their intention to make it a permanent game mode after ironing out all the details of Arena.
This action-packed spin on the core concepts of League of Legends is great, but it is not immune to becoming stale after a while, as the game has limited items and champions with limited combinations (although it would take a few years or even decades to try everything out…). This is where ranks come in to give the players something to work towards, providing them with a sense of accomplishment and progression – and most importantly, bragging rights – when grinding Arena. But what are the ranks in the 2v2v2v2 mode, and how can you make it to the top?

LoL Arena Ranks
Currently, there is 5 tiers in the Arena game mode that you can achieve:
- Wood
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Gladiator
Summoner’s Rift Ranked has Iron (and the recently added Emerald rank between Platinum and Diamond), but Arena finally introduced Wood rank which has been memed by the community since the dawn of the Ranked Tier system. Of course, this is just for the first run for the LTM, so more ranks can be introduced after Riot Games have polished Arena down the line.
How can you rank up in LoL Arena?
Ranking up in the new game mode is pretty simple: win the gauntlet, get points, and if you have enough points, you proceed to the next stage – no promotional matches needed. Also, “winning” in Arena is not the same as finishing 1st, as it’s enough to be in the top 2 to gain points, just like in Ranked TFT, where the top 4 gains LP, while the bottom 4 loses points. This means that you can climb the five ranks fairly fast, but you can fall back down quite easy as well.
Unlike TFT and Summoner’s Rift Ranked, Arena Tiers don’t have clear edges – for example, if you reach 2000 points, you don’t automatically progress to the next rank. Ratings are from the top down, measuring each player to the average rank of their peers: the top 100 players are considered Gladiators, then all the way down to Wood, with the lowest tier beginning somewhere under 1500 points at the moment.
LoL Arena Rewards
While grinding Ranks is nice and all, Riot Games managed to sweeten the pot for TFT and Summoner’s Rift Ranked by adding rewards at the end of each split, which happen two times a year for SR and with each new Set for TFT. At the moment, Arena doesn’t have rewards, as it is still somewhat of a test run, but if Riot Games are planning to make the mode permanent, they will most certainly give the top players something for their time.
While Arena is a Limited Time Mode, it doesn’t have an end date yet, so you can play your hearts out in the 2v2v2v2 mode to get to the top ranks – don’t forget to check out our guide for the most OP champion combos is the new game mode!
