Is Lords of the Fallen a Remake? Answerd

Is Lords of the Fallen a remake or not? This is one of the questions that many have been asking since the first announcement of the game during Gamescom 2022. In this article, therefore, we have decided to answer this question and remove any doubts before its official debut on the market on October 13, 2023, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Is Lords of the Fallen a remake, a sequel, or a reboot?

First of all, let's start by saying that Lords of the Fallen is not a remake. Instead, as was said by the developers themselves, it is more of a mix between a reboot and a sequel to the title of the same name released in 2014. Therefore, however, its nature is also a reboot, in reality, the story will take place a thousand years after the events of the previous game so that we can continue what the narrative arc is.

From the point of view of the game itself, in addition to continuing to draw from the Dark Souls series as inspiration, this new chapter will also be inspired by Elden Ring, a game also created by FromSoftware. Despite this, as we have already explained in another article, Lords of the Fallen will not be a truly open world game, like the aforementioned Elden Ring. It will have maps to explore and will be less linear than its predecessor, but it is not an open world game in the purest sense of the term.

Furthermore, from a gameplay point of view, some very interesting additions have been made. In fact, players will have to explore two different realms, that of Axiom and that of Umbral, in order to progress in the game. If you die in one of the two realms, you will have the opportunity to resurrect in the other, before finally dying and starting all over again from the nearest checkpoint. Another important thing that many will appreciate is the possibility to choose between 10 different initial classes, which we have described in this article.

Ultimately, Lords of the Fallen presents, within it, elements of both sequels and reboots, in such a way as to try to give a new life to this brand which has not been very lucky since its release. This new chapter, however, seems to have definitely raised the bar and there are many who can't wait to try the game to see what the developers have created. So, in conclusion, we can say that Lords of the Fallen is absolutely not a remake, but it is still a new beginning for the franchise.
