Here is what happened at the Dota 2 Asian Games 2023 and how China defeated Mongolia in the Grand Final.

Despite the fact that the Dota 2 world is focused on the upcoming The International 12, there are a few other big tournaments. Also known as Hangzhou 2022 or the 19th Asian Games, this tournament had a total of 14 teams. The event itself began on 29 September and concluded on 2 October. As its name suggests, it took place in Hangzhou, China.

What’s interesting about this Dota 2 event is that the International Olympic Committee organized it. Although the tournament should have occurred in 2022, it was held in 2023 because of COVID-19.

Dota 2 Asian Games 2023 – China’s Triumph

The fact that The 19th Asian Games went in favor of China probably does not come as a surprise. The favorites at this tournament secured a slot for the event’s playoff stage, whereas many other teams had to battle in the Group Stage.

Once the Groups were over, China had to play in the Quarterfinals against Thailand. As expected, the squad did not have any problems and defeated its opponents. However, this was not the case in the second match because the Chinese had a clash against Malaysia.

The first match did not go in their favor, but the Chinese squad won the second and third maps, securing themselves the opportunity to compete in the final.

China vs Mongolia Asian Games 2023 Final Recap

Speaking of the final, China and Mongolia played an epic series where we saw 3 games. The first one was probably the least interesting and Mongolia won after 40 minutes. Mongolia surprised their mighty opponents with a Drak Willow and TA core picks, something that we haven’t seen in the meta so far. On the other hand, China relied on the proven Sven and Ember combo that we’ve seen repeatedly. Although we expected Ame and the rest to perform better, Mongolia’s constant aggression paid off, and the team won the first map.

Game 2

The second game was crucial for the Chinese because they had to win to survive. Despite the fact that Mongolia had a good start, Altanginj “423” Bilguun and the rest weren’t able to use it to their advantage. Ame’s deadly Phantom Lancer eventually became too strong for the squad to deal with, and he won the game.

Game 3

The last map  at the Dota 2 Asian Games 2023 between these two was definitely the most intriguing one to watch because it offered us loads of action. Mongolia decided to pick good laning heroes, whereas the Chinese got Phantom Assassin. 

Unsurprisingly, Mongolia was in the lead early on, but in the end, this was not enough to close the game. Slowly, China’s cores became exceptionally strong and started pressuring their opponents. After several buybacks and epic fights, in the end, the Chinese team delivered their knock-out punch and won the tournament. Interestingly, the team had the following roster:
