Twitch Suspends Advertising On Amouranth’s Channel

Kaitlyn ‘Amouranth’ Siragusa claims the advertisements were suspended without notice.

“Although content may not break community guidelines or Terms of Service, Twitch has complete discretion to target individual channels.” This ominous warning was broadcasted by prominent streamer Kaitlyn ‘Amouranth’ Siragusa via Twitter. According to Amouranth, Twitch informed her that the ads on her channel were indefinitely suspended as the platform deemed her content “not advertiser-friendly.”

Amouranth is seemingly being sanctioned for her notoriety in popularizing the controversial hot tub meta. Streamers were taking advantage of a loophole in the Twitch Terms of Service. The loophole allows swimwear to be worn at a beach; or by broadcasting from a hot tub or pool in their houses.

But the community is slamming Twitch not for banning ads from Amouranth’s channel but for failing to provide appropriate communication for their action. With many streamers expressing a wariness this could also happen to them.

According to Amouranth she ended up reaching out to Twitch for clarification as to why the ads had been canceled. As an additional warning, she also noted, “There is no known policy for what results in a streamer being put on this blacklist.”

She also said that Twitch failed to clarify whether the ads on her channel would be reinstated or when.

Presently, the hot tub meta continues to dominate headlines. Twitch has announced ‘hot tubs’ fall under the criteria of appropriate context in its nudity and attire policy. However, the Amazon-owned site warns that it will take action when the content becomes sexually suggestive and explicit. This is probably what they meant when they said that they were “monitoring the situation closely.”
