MoistCr1TiKal Parts Ways Willingly With Twitch

MoistCr1TiKal has officially announced he is leaving Twitch after wanting to part ways for a long time and he is now moving to YouTube for streaming  

Charles White Jr., better known by his internet aliases, “MoistCr1TiKal” or “Cr1TiKal” and simply Charlie is an American content creator, YouTuber and former Twitch streamer. Charlie is also a podcaster, actor and musician besides his career as a content creator. Charlie began his journey as a streamer way before Twitch even existed and it was known as justin.tv in early 2009. However, Charlie’s YouTube channel was created back in 2006, where he uploaded videos discussing different Anime including self-made GMVs and AMVs. At present, Charlie is one of the biggest content creators known for his reaction and commentary content. This is why when a video titled “Goodbye Twitch” appeared on 15th August on his YouTube channel, fans were shocked.

On 15th August 2023, Charlie uploaded a video to his YouTube channel titled “Goodbye Twitch.” As soon as the video hit the internet, fans started going wild because of the shocking news. In the video, Charlie explains that this decision has supposedly been made “amicably” with Twitch. During the writing of this article, the video currently has 1.1M views in a matter of 4 hours. Charlie begins the detailed 11 minutes and 45 seconds long video by saying that he couldn’t find a good title for the video. Hence, it sounds more intense than he intended it to be. He then says, “I am saying Goodbye to Twitch, but not fully in the way that you think. This is not like a funeral service for the MoistCr1TiKal Twitch channel, that would be the saddest way of going out, ever.” 

He then jumps right into explaining that his Twitch contract has been terminated amicably between himself and Twitch. He then proceeds to thank Twitch for being understanding and allowing him to terminate the contract despite having, he quotes, “ a lot of time left” on his contract. Then, he begins to explain why he chose to terminate his contract with Twitch ahead of schedule. He says it is because he wanted to have the flexibility to be able to stream his content across multiple different platforms without being exclusive to Twitch. This was a reflection of his thoughts which he had shared with his audience earlier in June, after learning about Twitch’s renewed content guidelines and its effect on sponsorship deals. 

He then says this is not because he is signing a contract with another streaming platform, but it is only because he wants to be free and try out different platforms with his content. He says, “I really like the idea of not being forced into one place. I would like to be able to spread my f*cking butterfly wings and be able to try different things on different platforms.” He then continued talking and vouched for streaming contracts. He explained that there is no obligation for viewers to have to pay to support their favorite streamers. This is because they know that the streamer has an hourly pay rate or is earning from the contract they are under. 

Further on, Charlie talked about his criticisms of Twitch’s contract guidelines, despite vouching for streaming contracts in general. Firstly, he explained that all the revenue he earned from his streaming career in the last 2 years has been invested into his esports organization, “Moist Esports.” He said that the only reason why he was in the esports scene is because he is passionate about it. Then he says, “And, with the Twitch contract, f you ask anyone who’s currently under Twitch contracts, you’ll know. They’ll tell you, it is the lowest possible offer across any of the other streaming platforms that have ever offered contracts. It’s about a tenth of what the rest of the industry was offering streamers.” 

He then continues criticizing Twitch contracts saying, “Now, I’m pretty sure Twitch put the kabash on offering contracts in general. But when they were, it was a pretty large ask from the streamer in terms of hours, broadcasts per month and ad density. There was always an ad density expectation. But of course, there was wiggle room in terms of how many ads you played per hour. But, there was always that expectation which, as I’ve said many times, is not conducive to a good viewer experience because of how poorly ads are implemented on the platform. I think the ads are way too intrusive, and there’s a lot of room for improvement there.”

“So, the contract was very strict and the payment from the contract was not even enough to cover even a single one of the Moist Esports teams. So it all just kind of felt like this contract isn’t really doing anything except making the streams worse, because of having to pump ads into them. And it just didn’t make sense anymore.” 

Needless to say, a lot of factors contributed to Charlie’s decision of wanting to get rid of the Twitch contract and exclusivity. Charlie is not the only streamer who is leaving Twitch because of strict content guidelines. As we know, fellow reaction and commentary streamer, xQc has also left Twitch and moved to Kick, a rival streaming platform on the rise. Charlie just debuted on Youtube with his first live stream and fans seem to be enjoying it. Fans are all excited to see what new content Charlie will be coming up with now that he is not bound to Twitch.
