There is a great number of things coming to 6.5 in the lead-up to the next expansion. But let's go over the important stuff first. FFXIVs 6.5 will be split into two parts as is tradition at this point. The 6.5 patch will be released with the bulk of the content on October 3, 2023.

There will be another patch, scheduled for later in October which will include the 6.51 content as well as some fixes, and the second part of the MSQ and last leg of the patch called 6.55  will be released sometime in January 2024.

New Quests

As always there'll be a hefty addition to the Main Quest Scneario. The conclusion of the 6.x story as well as the lead-in into the next expansion will be split into two parts. Dubbed Growing Light we're taking the fight back to Void but it also looks like we're heading back to the First to catch up with some friends.

We'll also see the final part of the Myths of the Realm questline which puts us against the twelve deities of Eorzea. With hopefully some answers some of us have been waiting for over a decade now.

The Somehow Even Further Hildibrand Adventures as well as the final episode of the Tataru's Grand Endeavour Story will release at a later date.

Battle Content

First and foremost, part of the MSQ is a new Dungeon dubbed the Lunar Subterrane which we briefly visited at the end of patch 6.4.

Then we'll see the addition of the newest and final trial of Endwalker “The Abyssal Fracture” which pits us up against Zeromus who fans might be familiar with from Final Fantasy IV. This fight will be released in both Normal and Extreme difficulty for anyone looking for some extra challenge.

A new Unreal Trial will also be added to the game. This one is the new and improved version of The Singularity Reactor where you challenge everyone's favorite grandpa Thordan at a difficulty adjusted to Level 90.

Last but not least is the new Alliance Raid as part of the Myths of the Realm questline. Here we venture into Thaleia, the final two realms of the Twelve. And who knows what other secrets we'll stumble upon there.

Casual Content

Only one addition here, but a big one. A major update to the much beloved and highly valued Island Sanctuary Content. A new zone, new ranks, and new visions have been added.

With that comes all the usual goodness of new crafting recipes, new materials, new structures, and even more handicrafts for you to produce and ship. Another addition is the Felicitous Favors which ask the player to ship specific handicrafts within a week to earn special rewards and a new currency.

There have also been a number of quality-of-life improvements to the content you check out on the Loadstone.

Miscalenous Updates

One of the biggest small things in 6.5 will be the adjustment to the Duty Roulette. Because from here on out, you can no longer cheese the Duty Roulette: Alliance Raids by unequipping all your gear. You'll now be sorted by both your iLvl and Class/Job Level to guarantee a bigger variety of duties.

In accordance with that change, rewards, and experience gains have been adjusted to the difficulty of the respective Alliance Raids. See you Crystal Tower, it's been a good one.

The 6.5 Update also adds the final leg of the Duty Support system. From now on you can play through all of FFXIV Main Scenario Dungeons with AI Companions. Drowned City of Skalla, The Burn, and Ghimlyt Dark are also the last dungeons to receive both a visual and gameplay overhaul.

A little but nice change to the UI is also that all gear merchants, especially those for Tomestones and Raid Tokens can now sort their inventory by job type so you no longer have to read really carefully to not accidentally buy the the Something Something of Scouting instead of Striking.

And as always there have been a ton of new items that are added to the game including housing items, emotes, new glamour, and of course new gear and mounts.

Oh and don't forget to pester all your friends as the critically acclaimed MMORPG FFXIV now offers a free trial up to level 70 including both the Heavensward and Stormblood Expansion.

What Still to Come

But that's not all folks, there is still a lot of content to come in the near future. Those include the final chapter of the Somehow Even Further Hildibrand Adventures that include the last tier of the Relcit Weapons in 6.55, the last chapter of the Tataru Questline, a new Crystalline Conflict map, the final Endwalker Tribe quest as well as the Aloalo Island Variant Dungeon.

Don't forget that there is also the big Fall Guys collaboration event which is expected to be released sometime later this year as well as the beta test and subsequent release of the highly anticipated Xbox version of Final Fantasy XIV.

All of these are expected to be released by January 2024.
